Legal Requirements
From June 28, 2025, new web accessibility regulations will apply in Germany, based on EU Directive 2016/2102. These requirements affect both public bodies and private companies. Important points of the legislation include:
WCAG 2.1 Level AA Compliance: These guidelines define how web content can be made accessible. They include aspects such as text alternatives for images, subtitles for videos, and a logical navigation structure.
Barrier-Free Information Technology Regulation (BITV 2.0): This national regulation specifies the requirements of the WCAG and supplements them with specific German regulations.
