The future of e-government

The coming years will bring major challenges for public administration with e-government development, digitalization measures, demographic personnel policy and budget pressure. In this context, the question arises of suitable process models and tools that focus not only on the technological aspects, but above all on people. Promising answers must not only be practicable, but also manageable.

Digital Switzerland Strategy 2023

Back in 2020, the Federal Council adopted the "Digital Switzerland 2023" strategy, which aims to align the Federal Administration as closely as possible with the requirements of the economy and support the digital transformation. Within this framework, priority topics are defined each year to set the direction of the digital strategy. In 2023, the focus will be on the digitalization of the healthcare system, the creation of digital-friendly legal foundations and the strengthening of digital sovereignty.

As an active partner in this digitalization strategy, Consulteer supports the implementation of these key topics in close cooperation with various departments and federal offices. Together, we are setting the course for the digital transformation of Switzerland.

In the following interview, Philipp Orator, Business Area Lead - Public Sector at Consulteer, shares his perspective on current challenges, his role in ICT consulting in the federal sector, and his approach to successful outcomes.

Which core aspects of the strategy are particularly important this year?

Philipp Orator: Digital government services are very important right now. As we saw in 2020, there may be exceptional situations where authorities are overloaded. In the future, too, more digitization should happen in many aspects of the authorities. Especially the focus on digitization in the health sector has made progress and can build on the steps that have already happened.

Consulteer is active in consulting in the federal sector. What does that mean?

consulteer-public-consulting-1

Philipp Orator: We are involved in the so-called value chain end-to-end. Since we have our origins in UX/UI design, but also have competencies in development, project management, business analysis, requirements analysis, and maintenance, we can offer customized services to the customer in the Plan, and Run phases. This makes us the one-stop store for ICT consulting in the federal environment.

What does it mean to be successful in your job?

consulteer-public-consulting-4

Philipp Orator: When the customer achieves his goals through our services. Ideally, we can help the customer at an early stage to understand exactly what they need and enable success.

Are there any topics you prefer to keep your hands off?

Philipp Orator: Yes, of course. Although our competencies are broad, we also know that no one can cover everything. In such situations, we often seek collaboration with partner companies that have interfaces with our core competencies. For example, we do little work in the area of SAP.

What are your successes to date in the federal environment?

Philipp Orator: One success so far has been collaboration and support in digital government competencies. In recent years, we have been able to build up a competence of consultants for digitalization in the federal environment, and support federal departments, federal offices, and cantonal authorities in various mandates. Often these are project management mandates in digitization projects, as well as support in the above mentioned competency areas.

Consulteer's core competence in the public sector lies in driving projects forward - by taking the bigger picture first & then moving into specific roles.
