Liebherr

A new Operator Experience in Specialist Foundation Engineering.

Power. Control. Precision.

The LSC 8-20 is Liebherr’s latest slurry wall cutter – a world-first in specialist foundation engineering. Designed for extreme conditions: tight urban spaces, deep excavation pits, and demanding ground environments. It’s a machine that brings together massive force and absolute precision – where every control action needs to be spot-on.

Consulteer supported the project from day one as a design partner – with a clear goal: to develop a control solution that truly supports the operator’s daily work. Intuitive, durable, and built for tough on-site conditions.

Our contribution combined three core disciplines:

  • UX Research on the job site – including shadowings, interviews, and rapid prototyping

  • Industrial Design for a new, ergonomic control panel with clear tactile logic

  • User Interface Design that visualizes complex machine states in a clear, structured way

Built for Extremes

When 60 tons of steel are working deep underground, every decision counts. Operating a machine like the LSC 8-20 means monitoring multiple pressure systems, gearboxes, sensors, and target values – under pressure, amid vibration, heat, or cold.

The previous control logic worked, but it was overloaded, visually cluttered, and outdated in its interaction design.

What was needed: a new interface, built around real-world site conditions – understandable, safe, and efficient.

Developed on site

Our UX designers worked where the machine does – on site. Through expert interviews, job shadowing, rapid prototyping, and ergonomic testing, we immersed ourselves in real workflows.

The result: a concept shaped not in the studio, but through hands-on experience with the people who use it daily.

One System. One Logic.

What began as a panel redesign turned into a complete overhaul of the human-machine interface. Together with Liebherr’s development teams, we created a seamless control concept that integrates both analog and digital layers.

  • A restructured physical panel with tactile feedback and intuitive grouping

  • A digital interface that simplifies and prioritizes key system data – from oil pressure to cable twist

  • A visual language designed for quick understanding in challenging on-site conditions

Built for Operators

The new control logic of the LSC 8-20 improves orientation, reduces errors, and shortens onboarding – noticeable in everyday use.

Key benefits:

  • Clear visual structure for fast orientation

  • Intuitive handling that shortens response times

  • Rugged design built for real-world environments

The result is a system that makes complex processes manageable – and delivers where it matters most: on the construction site.

At Consulteer, we combine empathy for user needs with a hands-on approach to turn visions into market-ready solutions.
